- Services for Mrs. Emma A. Moore, 86 of 1311 SW 20 will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harrah
Church of the Nazarene with burial in Olive Hill Cemetery in Bethany, directed by Wilson
Funeral Home, Harrah. She died Wednesday at South Community Hospital. Mrs. Moore, born in Polk County, Ark., moved to Oklahoma in 1909 and to Oklahoma City in
1959. She belonged to Jernigan Memorial Church of the Nazarene in Bethany. Survivors
include a daughter; three brothers, Robert Whisenhunt, Mena, Ark.; and A. D. and Carl
Whisenhunt of Watson, and two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Tibbs, and Mrs. Gracie Tibbs, both of
Tulsa.

- John and Jane moved to Arkansas just prior to 1870 and settled near Old Dallas at a
settlement called Rocky. Eleven children were born to them by 1889.
- For future reference it is interesting to note that Rebecca Jones and husband John
Wesley Goodwin moved to the same area about 1877. They are Buried at Rocky Cem.

- John Jones Moore
- Monday February 19, 1935 saw the passing of another Confederate Soldier and old settler
of the highland and Eastern Oklahoma.
- John Moore, better known as uncle John to hundreds of friends through the Co. passed
away at 4; p. m. at the age of 90. He was born in TX, November 11, 1844. (My note - error
on birthplace, it was AL)
- Next to the oldest of 12 children (My note - he was 4th oldest) born to Rev. and Mrs. S.
L. Moore, he enlisted in the war Between the States shortly before his 21st birthday. He
served as a member of Guano's Brigade with the TX Rangers. Shortly after the war he
married Miss. Jane Hensley in TX and moved his family to Arkansas around 1870, settling
near Old Dallas, then to Zafra, OK where he resided for 56 years raising a family of 7
boys and 4 girls. The sons were Joe, William, Ode, Wesley, and Shade. The three daughters
were Tacy Lula (Eubanks, Mowdy), Mrs. Will Hamiter and Mrs. Jack Williams (Emma). There
were 53 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren at the time of his death. His wife
preceded him in death by 44 years. John Jones Moore laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cem,
near the Arkansas/Oklahoma border.
- Civil War Information
- John Jones left his home in June of 1862 to enlist in the Confederate Army. He served in
the Infantry, Ochiltrees Regiment, Maples Company and Young's Brigade until the spring of
1863. He then contacted measles and was released from the Army at Pine Bluff, AR. He made
his way home to Rusk, TX on foot, hiding in the woods for days with fever so high he was
delirious and had lost all track of time. He had to swim the Red River and probably
several other creeks and streams before he finally arrived in Rusk, TX. He remained in
Rusk until the autumn of 1863 at which time he joined the Calvary, Company T, Martins
Regiment, Gano's Brigade and served till the end of the Civil war, in 1865. He was honorably discharged at Fort Bend Co, TX at Richmond. During the three years he
was in the army he was only slightly wounded, in the right arm, while fighting in the Battle of Pea Ridge, AR.

- Funeral Services for John Wesley Moore of Zafra, Okla., who died Tuesday of a heart attack at his home, were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at Pleasant Hill
church with Rev J T Bowlings of Smithville, Okla., officiating. Burial at Pleasant Hill cemetery was directed by the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. The
pallbearers were Vick Crane, Joe Bob Lane, Johnnie Romine, Crock Warren, Regan Warren, and Opal Johnson. Mr. Moore was born June 15 1877 at Rocky. He was married
