MICHAEL ANDREW WHITLEY  (17 Oct 1948 - 22 Aug 2003)
and his daughter
JANICE MARIE WHITLEY  (01 Jan 1978 - 17 Feb 2006)

OBITUARY - 23 August 2003

Michael Andrew Whitley went home to be with His Lord after a one year battle with melanoma. Services will be held at Highland Hills Baptist Church located at 7900 Devore Drive in Oklahoma City at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2003, with burial at Olive Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City.

Mike was born on October 17, 1948 in Washington D.C. to Franklin Eugene and Jean Marie Whitley. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1970 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and he later obtained an MBA from Oklahoma City University. Mike was married on December 22, 1970 in Columbia, MS, and accepted Christ into his life in January, 1971, both very important moments in his life. Mike was a wonderful, loving husband, and father of 2 children who both reside in Edmond, OK.

Mike loved his work as a Petroleum Engineer and spent most of his career working in the 'oil field' where all of the 'excitement happens'. Despite his battle with cancer, God allowed him to work up until July 25th, 2003. During his work career, he was responsible for drilling and completing over 1,200 oil & gas wells throughout Oklahoma. Mike was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, reading and following those OSU Cowboys, but his greatest delight was spending time with his 2 grandsons.

Mike spent his life serving Christ not only as a church member, but as a Sunday School teacher & deacon. He also served as a discussion leader in Bible Study Fellowship. Mike will be missed immensely by his family and friends. Most of all he will be missed for his Godly wisdom, his great sense of humor, his relentless courage, strong faith, and his undying loyalty to his family and friends. He was indeed a man of integrity.

Survivors include: his wife, his daughter, his son, 2 grandchildren; one sister,   one brother, and a host of nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Franklin Eugene Whitley and Jean Marie Whitley Goddard.  Pall bearers: John Stover, John Cromling, Joe Bryant, Terry Nitzel, Norris Wheeler, J. E. Soudek, Larry Pingry, and Mark Smith. Honorary Pallbearers: Robert Blair, James Zaslaw, Ram Ramchand, Pete Bjorlie, David Blair, Dennis Dye, Curtis Turner, Russell Winstead, and Spencer Randolf.

The family has requested that any donations be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation.

Janice Marie Whitley

- We find comfort today because Janice Marie Whitley, age 28, is at Home with the Lord. Entering this world at 12:54 pm on January 1, 1978, Jan was Oklahoma City's New Years baby. On Feb. 17, 2006 Jesus called out to Jan 'let My little child come to Me' and she ran to Him with outstretched arms calling 'Daddy, Daddy, I'm finally home!' Jan, daughter of Pam Whitley & the late Mike Whitley, was born with a congenital heart defect that was discovered when she was 8 days old. Complications during surgery left Jan permanently brain damaged, but God used her life mightily to teach us many lessons. Jan's beautiful smile and fun loving spirit have been a delight to all who knew her and many lives have been changed by her life and her story. Not only did Jan find delight in people, but she was also delighted in listening to Children's Christian music. Her Christian tapes which normally could be found playing 24 hours a day. Jan is survived by her mom, her brother, her nephews.  A very special thanks to all of the care-givers that have shared in Jan's life. Special thanks go to Bradford Village in Edmond and Vista Care Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2006 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Olive Hill Cemetery, Oklahoma City, OK.

    Fell Down the Shaft
A young daughter of Mr. P.A. Taltavull, of 472 Maryland avenue southwest, named Gracie, met with a serious accident yesterday afternoon by falling down the elevator shaft at Lee's undertaking establishment, where Mr. Tatavull is employed as foreman. In company with her mother and two other children Gracie called to see her father. While the others were conversing she wandered to the elevator shaft, and without warning fell to the bottom, a distance of about twenty-five feet. When picked up by the almost distracted parents the little girl was apparently lifeless. After being removed to her home a physician found that she had sustained a broken arm and severe internal injuries. The condition of the little one today was extremely critical, death being expected at any moment.

    OBITUARY: From the Salida Newspaper
    FLECK, Mack Gaylord 1856 - 1926
PROMINENT PIONEER OF SALIDA DIES ON COAST - Word has been received in this city of the death of Mack FLECK, a pioneer resident of the state and of this community at Long Beach, California, Thursday February 4. Death resulted from flu-pneumonia and a complication of diseases. Mr. Fleck had gone to California last November for his health, and was deriving much benefit from the change of climate until this recent illness overtook him. With him at the time of his death were his wife, his son Roy, of Washington, his daughters, Mrs. J. H. MCMUELLEN, Mrs. Minnie RICHARDSON and Mrs. M. B. ALLEN, of Long Beach and Los Angeles, and a niece, Mrs. Lyman BANKS. Those in Salida to mourn Mr. Fleck's death are a daughter, Mrs. F. A. BEAUREGARD, a son, Lloyd Fleck, and a step-son Harry AULT. Other children surviving are Mrs. R. A. COLLINS of Minturn, Mrs. A. B. WALTERS, of Red Cliffe, and a son Ivan Fleck; also a brother, Charles in Pueblo, and other sisters and brothers in the east. Mack Fleck was born in Ohio, March 6, 1856, moving to Kansas when a mere child, and to Colorado in 1880, locating first at Leadville. At later intervals he resided at Red Cliffe and in the Holy Cross district, finally taking up a ranch at Avon, where he lived until coming to Salida six years ago. Mr. Fleck had held different positions of esteem and trust, having been sheriff of Eagle county for six years, a commissioner of that county for a like period of years, president of the school board, and serving in various other capacities in a satisfactory manner. Many pioneers of Chaffee Lake, Eagle, Garfield and Mesa counties will mourn the passing of one of their number, since Mr. Fleck was prominently interested in all activities in the communities in which he had resided for a number of years, and was held in the highest respect by his friends and acquaintances. Funeral services will be conducted in Long Beach Sunday afternoon, and li? and interment will be made there. (Contributed to the Eagle County, Colorado - Obituary Page by Lana TROY)
