OBITUARY - 21 August 2016 Pren Guest Hollingsworth was born January 21, 1922 in Mannsville, Oklahoma to Roy and Ursula Hollingsworth. He passed away August 16, 2016 at the age of 94 years.
He attended school in Durant, OK and Norman, OK.
He was a varsity tennis player and also a member of the Durant High School Mixed Chorus that was invited to sing in Washington, DC in 1939.
At the beginning of the war, Pren joined the US Army Air Force. After training and duty as an instructor, he was sent overseas to the 97th Fighter Squadron, 82nd Fighter Group.
There Pren piloted the famed Lockheed P-38 Lightning in combat in the skies over Italy and southern Europe. On his last mission, forced to bail out of his crippled aircraft, Pren
was captured and held briefly by the Germans, but soon escaped to friendly forces. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart. At the war's end, Pren met and married the love of his life,
Kathryn Lay of Britton, OK. They raised three children. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1949 and began a career in journalism and advertising. The family moved to Dallas in 1956,
where Pren was an executive with the Oil and Gas Journal for ten years. He later founded his own advertising agency, which he operated until his retirement. He also served as troop committee chairman
of Boy Scout troop 575. Pren loved traveling with Kay, tinkering on his 1942 Lincoln Continental, shooting family videos and studying ancient history. Pren was preceded in death by his beloved Kay in 2011,
a loss most sorely felt. He is survived by his children eight grand-children, nine great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Frances Lay Morris of Oklahoma City. Please offer memorials
to the Circle Ten Council of the Boy Scouts of America

OBITUARY: 18 March 2011 Our beloved Kathryn Lay Hollingsworth went to sleep in the Lord
on March 16, 2011. Those of us who remain to keep her loving memory in our
hearts are her husband of 66 years, Pren Hollingsworth; her
three children; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister Frances; and
many cousins, nieces and nephews. Kay was predeceased by her parents,
Lawrence Lay and Alberta Blanche Bailey Lay; her sisters Margaret Lay Young
and Ruth Lay Stabler; and her brother Bob Lay. Kay was born Mary Kathryn Lay
on February 5, 1927 in Norman, Oklahoma. She attended school in Britton,
Oklahoma and also attended the University of Oklahoma. On December 22, 1945
Kay married her partner and soul-mate, Pren Guest Hollingsworth, in
Farmersville, Texas. Together they raised their family in several cities and
towns in Oklahoma, finally settling in Dallas in 1956. In addition to being
a devoted wife and mother, Kay had careers at St. Mark's School of Texas and
the American National Insurance Company, retiring in 1992. Kay was an artist
and musician, and she never tired of her interior decorating projects. After
retirement, Kay and Pren traveled and enjoyed their hobbies of crossword
puzzles, scrabble and computers. We rejoice in the faith that one day Kay
will meet the Savior in the clouds, but in the meantime we will sorely miss
her. Pren says the vision of her last smile seemed to him exactly the same
as her first smile 66 years ago. Graveside services are tentatively planned
for Monday, May 30, 2011 at Olive Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City. In lieu of
flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the North Texas
chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America or to the charity of your choice. |
